Description

In the past decade, there has been ample research on the relationship between occupation and mortality. Population and labour censuses as well as civil and population registers have left us with detailed information on the occupational careers and mortality risks of individuals. However, these individuals tend to be men, as female occupations are generally poorly registered and contain a limited number of occupational titles. Recent digitisation efforts have produced female occupational information on an unprecedented level for the Netherlands. We aim to use this information to ask whether: 1) employment affected female mortality risks, 2) the sector of employment affected female mortality risks, and 3) whether the context in which women worked affected female mortality risks.
