The Spider, the Sidewinder Snake and the Crab: Dramaturgies of Moving Laterally

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkAcademic

Description

A performative dialogue, where we explore dramaturgies of moving laterally, sideways, as practices of staying at the crossroads. Moving laterally rejects the linear and the directional, possibilizing decentering and dis/re-orienting.

It is guided by incidentalness, inconsistency and opaqueness in knowledge and attention.
It is a way to act counter-productively and to probe fugitivity and the politics of refusal.

Drawing on recent performances, experiences, and artworks, we will raise and politicize dramaturgical questions around attention, (in)visibility, and unruliness.

Through an open-form compositional approach, our dialogue will trace and merge sideways dramaturgies. It will weave together prepared and unpredictable materials, while inviting participation and attunement to the event through lateral operations.
