Description
Internal spectators play an interesting in various art forms. Wollheim wrote about their role in painting, of luring us in the fictional space depicted. He ascribes a psychological repertoire to them, allowing us to view the scene from their perspective. Similar processes are at work in literature (Poe's "Descent into the Maelstrom") and in fiction films, where one character "sees" the other on our behalf. Thus they bring the fictional world to reality.
