The afterlives of early modern Dutch almanacs

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkAcademic

Description

This paper reflects on the multiple uses, both short and long term, of early modern Dutch almanacs. Although almanacs were usually discarded when the calendar became obsolete, many copies have survived in public and private collections. Reasons for keeping them were that they were bound in precious bindings, that they were bound together with entertaining supplements, or that they contained personal or administrative annotations. All the more reason to explore the varied afterlives of almanacs.
