Description
Conference track chairing and track opening presentation.
With calls for inter-and transdisciplinary research, science, including technology development, increasingly becomes a public issue, or a matter of common concern, as scientists are invited to ‘open up’ their decision making on e.g. research questions, aims and methodologies for the input of non-academic actors (Stirling, Gibbons & Nowotny 2001). Research in e.g. the field of Science and Technology Studies already showed that when dealing complex issues, scientists and non-academic partners do not necessarily agree on problem definitions and proposed solutions. In this track we focus on the question how to study transdisciplinary research projects in order to better understand the challenges and success factors? How do we make sense of the multiple inter- and transdisciplinarities and do justice to the heterogeneity of collaborative processes and outcomes without ending up in a conceptual no man’s land?
