Quantum physics in secondary education:Where do we stand?

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkAcademic

Description

There is a lot going on in educational research into teaching quantum physics at the secondary level. In our review study in 2017 we concluded there was still a lot of work to do, that there was a need for an assessment tool, and more empirical research into: 1) teaching strategies, 2) the role of multimedia applications and 3) students’ learning difficulties regarding wave functions, potential wells and quantum states.
But where do we stand now? What have we learned about teaching strategies and multimedia applications? And what have we learned about students’ difficulties? In this talk I will give an overview of steps that were taken within the quantum education research community since 2017. Additionally I will outline the challenges that we have to face in order to create awareness among secondary school students of the importance of quantum physics for technological developments, society, and our daily lives.
