Description
In "A note on mathematical pluralism and logical pluralism", Synthese, 2021, Graham Priest argues that it is perfectly coherent to accept mathematical pluralism without accepting logical pluralism. He goes on to say that this undermines Shapiro's argument for logical pluralism in his 2014 monograph, "Varieties of Logic", which indeed appeals prominently to mathematical pluralism as motivation. Since I am rather sympathetic to a certain reading of Shapiro, in this talk I will scrutinize Priest's views on logic and maths and question whether they really pose an interesting challenge to Shapiro-style logical pluralism.
