Description

Scalable across a variety of formats and standardised in view of global circulation, the moving image has always been both an image of movement and an image on the move. Over the last three decades, digital production technologies, communication networks and distribution platforms have taken the scalability and mobility of film to a new level. The concept of “configurations of film” aims to account for these developments and understands moving images in terms of their operations, forms and formats, and locations and infrastructures. Bringing together PhD candidates and faculty from Concordia University and the Graduate Research Training Program “Configurations of Film”, the symposium explores the role of platforms within these wider developments. The two keynotes, the 11 research papers, and a workshop present a variety of interconnected approaches to the topic, focusing on labor and media industries, infrastructures and usages, audience reception and participation, as well as the role of platforms in film historiography.
