Description

Abstract: The carbonate clumped isotope thermometer Clumped isotope thermometry is a relatively new tool in isotope geochemistry. It allows the reconstruction of carbonate formation temperatures based on the measurement of the degree of ordering (clumping) of 13C and 18O into bonds with each other in lattices of carbonate minerals. This tool is becoming increasingly popular to study past climates but it also has a high potential within other Geoscience disciplines . Here I present recent analytical developments in the field and discuss some applications in a variety of environments.
