Description

The digital museum as project for interdisciplinary learning

The research group Subjects in Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning (SILT) at Utrecht University recently hosted an interdisciplinary seminar for students, researchers and instructors on the subject of serendipity. In order to stimulate participation, SILT members curated an online museum space where digital “exhibits” sparked discussion about the role that serendipity can play in interdisciplinary encounters. Visits to museum displays by seminar participants were complemented by conversations in online channels. In this presentation, we would like to suggest the online museum as a project model to facilitate interdisciplinary learning. Using our experience with this “serendipity museum,” we will demonstrate how online museums can offer an alternative, creative space to foster debate among academics across various disciplines.
