It takes a Village: The Dutch Jazz Ecosystem, Community Building, and Musical Quality

In this keynote, dr. Loes Rusch presents the initial findings of a research project on the Dutch ecosystem of jazz. It evaluates the current NL jazz scene against the backdrop of some of today’s main challenges. Rusch reflects on the responsibilities of various stakeholders in jazz, including educational institutions, venues and festivals, supporting organisations, and musicians. Rusch argues that in order to make jazz sustainable for the future, we collectively need to rethink the concepts of musicianship and musical quality.
