Activity: Participating in or organising an event › Workshop, seminar, course › Academic
Description
The workshop took place at Shenkar College, on the outskirts of Tel Aviv; Sapir Academic College in the south of Israel; and the Jerusalem Cinematheque between June 3rd - June 8th, 2018. It brought together leading international scholars of film and media studies with Israeli scholars, filmmakers, and key figures in the Israeli film industry to discuss Israeli documentary and narrative cinemas and television, their history and current state of the art. In addition to lectures, panels and seminars, participants attended premiers of Israeli films at the Cinema South International Film Festival, hosted by the Sderot Cinematheque. The workshop focused on contemporary Israeli narrative and documentary cinemas and highlighted academic and civic initiatives designed to engage marginalized sectors of Israeli society—such as Palestinian-Arabs, Bedouins and ultra-Orthodox Jewish women—in filmmaking. Throughout the workshop, participants had the opportunity to meet members of the film community from all walks of Israeli society alongside producers and heads of funding agencies.
