(In)Equalities in Participatory Culture: Pocket Publics Book Launch

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventWorkshop, seminar, courseAcademic

Description

The ongoing digital transition remains rife with the potential for both tools to combat inequalities of access, representation, and participation, as well as for the emergence of new forms of oppression. This workshop brings together scholars from law, anthropology, European studies, and media studies, addressing the question of how participatory culture enables and undermines equality in the past and present as well as within various geographical contexts.

The workshop concludes with the launch of the book Identity, Community, and Sexuality in Slash Fan Fiction: Pocket Publics by Anne Kustritz (Utrecht University). Kustritz will discuss the main findings of Pocket Publics followed by remarks by respondents from law, anthropology, and literary studies and a Q&A with the audience.
