Imagining otherwise

Activity: Talk or presentation › Invited talk › Academic

Description

Lecture within the Approaching Language lecture series WHO’S THERE.
In this lecture Rosemarie Buikema will be setting up a conversation concerning the question who is allowed to imagine/articulate what in the name of who and why (or why not)? In doing so Buikema aims to dive into the contested entanglements between me, myself and I, while referring to the relationship between language and subject formation and thinking of Irigarays claim that language can both imprison and set free.
Against the background of the legacies of the inadequate representation of political minority groups in our culture, the question who has the right to represent what in the name of who will be elaborated on via a series of case studies. Each of these cases will be centred around the question: how to reconcile the ethics and politics of representation with the right to perform imaginary worlds?
