Description
Romantic and sexual developments are normative aspects of the life stages of adolescence and young adulthood, and important correlates of young people’s well-being. These developmental processes are, however, more than individual processes driven by biological and psychological maturation. According to biopsychosocial models, romantic and sexual cognitions and behaviours are also strongly related to socio-contextual factors, including interactive processes in the social domains of parents (e.g., parenting processes), peers (e.g., peer relations), and romantic partners (e.g., partner interactions). The aim of this special issue is to bring together studies on how interactive processes in these different social domains (i.e., parents, peers, partners) are associated with romantic and sexual developments during adolescence and young adulthood, and to distil relevant new insights into how research and practice can incorporate an interrelational perspective to better understand and promote youth’s relational and sexual health.
