Description

Book Series 'New Materialisms' Technological advances, notably the convergence of information and bio-genetic technologies, the growth of ‘smart’ materials and their complex social and political consequences, are forcing a reconsideration of what counts as ‘matter’. The opposition between meaning and matter, culture and nature, is redefined in dynamic and symbiotic ways, both within academia and in society at large. Economic crashes and ecological disasters challenge established representational paradigms, calling for more creativity in coming to terms with the vital materialism of our times. This urgency translates into the emerging interdisciplinary field of ‘new materialist studies’. Our series provides a discursive hub and an institutional home to this vibrant terrain.
