‘DTCC and Financial Supervision’

Michalis Sotiropoulos, the Executive Director of the Depository Trust & Clear­ing Corporation (DTCC) clearing house, discussed the work of DTCC as a major player on the financial markets worldwide. He will talk about DTCC’s relation with policy-making in­stitutions and supervisory authorities such as the Eu­ropean Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Central Bank (ECB) and the legislative institutions of the European Union. Is the supervision of financial markets in Europe now effective? Are new changes, such as supervision of central counter-parties (CCPs), necessary and why? By this insight into the day-to-day relation­ship between major players on the financial markets with supervisory authorities, this seminar will provide for a practical reflection on issues of fundamental rights, accountability and the effective­ness during rule-making and supervisory processes.
