Description
Thinker in Residence fellowshipMay-July 2016, I was Thinker in Residence at the Motion Lab-Centre for Creative Arts Research at Deakin University (Melbourne). The Motion Lab’s movement technology-focused research programme specializes in trans-media fields including virtual reality, augmented reality, performing arts, previsualisation, animation and motion capture. The Motion Lab is one of Deakin University’s key strategic research centres. Current research includes (among others) dance haptics for the blind and vision impaired, robotic AI developments, 3D and VR experiences for Opera, and Choreographic Coding Labs. As Thinker in Residence, I collaborated with artist/researchers from the Motion Lab to examine what artistic explorations of technology in performance have to say about the agency of technology, and about knowledge production and transmission as embodied practices that take shape in interaction with technologies of various kinds. The Deakin University Thinkers in Residence program provides the opportunity for highly-ranked researchers from all over the world to visit and work at Deakin University in order to stimulate innovative research and establish global research networks.
